Unlike the traditional game of Chess, Business Chess differs greatly in that it promotes direct communication with fellow players. Best played with two teams of five players each, Business Chess is an excellent exercise in the decision making process, as the team collectively decides on each move. Only one player may make the actual move on the board of his team, alleviating crowding and strengthening communication effectively. Setting game parameters can be a good starting point to establish the social structure within each team.
Each team is encouraged to determine how it will organize their discussions to make their strategic decisions. This can build team spirit while managing leadership, delegating labor and problem solving. Branching allows each team to freely discuss positions and help calculate variants in play. However, the team will need to determine whether branching is an effective use of time, perhaps based on individual dynamics and/or how well each player interacts within the group and in a competitive environment.
A team can easily improve its skills by implementing self-organization, while generating new ideas with constructive communication. Specialization of each player-s strengths will not only increase the team-s psychological compatibility, but will also increase their chances of winning by developing a communicative competence.
